Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has revealed that Pastor Elvis Agyemang financed the purchase of pitch covers for the Accra Sports Stadium.
According to Ankrah, the intervention played a crucial role in protecting the stadium’s playing surface, particularly during the December entertainment shows. He noted that the availability of the pitch covers helped preserve the turf and ensured the stadium remained in good condition after hosting large-scale events.
The Accra Sports Stadium has in the past faced concerns over pitch quality following concerts and other non-sporting activities. The acquisition of pitch covers is therefore seen as a significant step toward maintaining the facility’s standards while accommodating multiple events.
The disclosure has sparked conversations about private sector and individual contributions to national infrastructure, with many acknowledging the importance of collaborative efforts in maintaining public sporting facilities.
