Oda MP Alleges Move to Remove EC Boss Was Meant to Sway Public Attention
Member of Parliament for Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has alleged that recent petitions seeking the removal of the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, her deputies, and the Special Prosecutor (OSP) were intended to divert public attention.
His comments follow the Chief Justice’s dismissal of petitions that sought to remove the EC Chair and her deputies from office. According to the Oda MP, the timing and nature of the petitions suggest a broader political motive aimed at shifting focus from other pressing national issues.
The dismissal of the petitions effectively halted attempts to initiate constitutional processes against the EC leadership. However, the matter has continued to generate political debate, with differing views emerging across party lines.
While some believe the petitions were legitimate exercises of constitutional rights, others argue they formed part of a strategy to influence public discourse.
The development underscores the heightened political tension surrounding Ghana’s key democratic institutions, particularly the Electoral Commission and the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
