Sports Minister Calls on 2026 World Cup Hosts to Ease Restrictions for Fans

Ghana’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, is urging the host nations of the 2026 FIFA World Cup — the United States, Canada, and Mexico — to relax some of their strict entry requirements to allow more fans to attend the tournament.

According to the Minister, many football lovers across Africa risk being left out of the global event because of tough visa conditions such as proof of property ownership, high bank balances, or detailed marital documentation. He noted that these requirements often disadvantage ordinary supporters who may not have such records but remain passionate about following their national teams.

Adams explained that the World Cup is a global celebration and should be accessible to fans from all backgrounds. He emphasized that easing entry restrictions, or creating special provisions for World Cup ticket holders, would allow more people to travel and support their countries without unnecessary barriers.

With anticipation building ahead of the 2026 tournament, Ghanaian fans are hopeful that North American authorities will consider the appeal and introduce flexible measures that encourage broader participation.
