Egypt Asks FIFA to Cancel 2026 World Cup Pride Match

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has requested FIFA to cancel LGBTQ+ “Pride Match” celebrations planned for Egypt’s 2026 World Cup game against Iran in Seattle.

The EFA cited conflicts with the countries’ cultural, religious, and social values, stating it “rejects in absolute terms” any activities promoting homosexuality at the match.

The Seattle Pride Match was organized to coincide with the city’s annual Pride weekend and the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots. Organizers say it aims to promote inclusivity, while critics argue the focus should remain on football.

FIFA has not yet responded to the request, leaving the fate of the Pride Match uncertain as the tournament approaches.
