The Vice President has donated 10,000 sanitary pads to traders at the Kaneshie Market as part of the government’s Free Sanitary Pad Programme, an initiative aimed at addressing period poverty among women and girls.
The donation forms part of broader efforts to support women, particularly those in low-income communities, by ensuring access to basic menstrual hygiene products. Authorities say the initiative is intended to promote dignity, health, and improved well-being for women and young girls.
During the presentation, officials emphasized the importance of tackling period poverty, noting that limited access to sanitary products can affect the daily lives, productivity, and health of many women.
The Free Sanitary Pad Programme is expected to be expanded to reach more communities across the country, providing support to vulnerable groups while raising awareness about menstrual hygiene and women’s health.
