POLICE ARREST 8 CHINESE NATIONALS AND 2 GHANAIANS IN ECG CABLE THEFT OPERATION

The Ghana Police Service has arrested eight Chinese nationals and two Ghanaians in connection with a major Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) cable theft operation.

The arrests were made during a special security operation targeting individuals suspected of stealing and illegally dealing in ECG electrical cables, which have become a growing concern for authorities due to their impact on power supply and national infrastructure.

According to reports, the suspects were apprehended after intelligence-led investigations uncovered their alleged involvement in the illegal activity. The operation led to the discovery of materials believed to be linked to the theft and processing of electrical cables.

Cable theft has been a persistent problem in Ghana, often leading to power outages, financial losses, and damage to critical electricity infrastructure. Authorities say the latest arrests form part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on individuals and networks involved in such crimes.

Police officials have indicated that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to assist authorities with further inquiries into the suspected criminal network behind the operation.

The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting national infrastructure and has urged the public to report suspicious activities related to the theft or sale of electrical equipment.
