A group of 40 police officers has petitioned the Deputy Attorney General over what they describe as an unfair demand by the Ghana Police Service for them to write promotion examinations despite a court order directing their promotion.
According to the officers, the court had already ruled in their favor, ordering the Police Service to promote them. However, they claim the Service is insisting that they must first sit for promotion exams before the directive can be implemented.
The officers argue that the demand contradicts the court’s decision and undermines the authority of the judiciary. They have therefore appealed to the Deputy Attorney General to intervene and ensure that the court’s ruling is respected and fully implemented.
The petition highlights growing tensions between the affected officers and the Police administration, with the officers maintaining that they are simply seeking the enforcement of a lawful court decision.
They believe that requiring them to take additional exams after the court ruling places an unnecessary obstacle in the way of their rightful promotion.
The matter is now expected to receive attention from the Attorney General’s Department, which may review the situation and determine the appropriate legal and administrative steps to resolve the dispute.
