The Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund (MDF), Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, has expressed condolences to families affected by the recent tragic mining pit collapses in the Amenfi West and Asutifi South districts.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Board and Management of the Fund, Dr. Bisiw-Kotei described the incidents as deeply saddening and extended sympathies to the victims, their families, and the affected communities.
She noted that the loss of lives and injuries resulting from such accidents highlight the urgent need for stronger safety measures within the mining sector. According to her, protecting the lives of miners and ensuring safer operational practices must remain a top priority.
Dr. Bisiw-Kotei also called for greater cooperation among regulatory authorities, mining operators, and local communities to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The Minerals Development Fund reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote responsible mining, community development, and improved safety standards within Ghana’s mining industry.
