The National Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has expressed deep condolences to the Government and people of Iran following the reported assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a statement issued on March 3, the Chief Imam described the incident as a moment of profound sorrow for Muslims around the world. He praised Ayatollah Khamenei as a devout and dedicated leader who combined governance with strong religious devotion, demonstrating how faith and leadership can work together to promote social order and national development.
According to the statement, the late Iranian leader was regarded by many as a symbol of resistance and hope for oppressed people across the world.
The Chief Imam also condemned what he described as US–Israeli aggression that allegedly led to the assassination, particularly noting that the incident occurred during the holy month of Ramadan.
While mourning the loss of Ayatollah Khamenei, the Chief Imam also expressed sympathy for all those who have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict, regardless of nationality or religious background.
He further called for calm and restraint, urging global leaders to respect sovereignty, human dignity, and the sanctity of the Ramadan period. The Chief Imam concluded his message by calling for an immediate end to hostilities and encouraging dialogue and peace-building efforts instead of escalating tensions.
