According to the minister, the initiative is aimed at supporting students who were unable to pass the mathematics paper, which remains a key requirement for further education and employment opportunities in Ghana.
Speaking on the matter, Haruna Iddrisu explained that the move is part of efforts by the government and education authorities to ensure that students who struggled with the subject are given a second chance to improve their results.
Mathematics is considered one of the core subjects in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), and failing the subject often limits students’ ability to gain admission into tertiary institutions or pursue certain career paths.
The proposed opportunity to resit the exam is expected to benefit thousands of young graduates who are seeking to upgrade their results to meet academic and professional requirements.
Education stakeholders believe the initiative could help reduce the number of students who are unable to progress in their academic journey due to difficulties in mathematics.
Further details on how the re-sit programme will be organized, including timelines and eligibility requirements, are expected to be announced by the Ministry of Education and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
