Uber and Bolt Work-and-Pay Model Is Exploitative – Barker-Vormawor

Lawyer and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has criticized the work-and-pay arrangements operated by ride-hailing companies such as Uber and Bolt, describing them as exploitative.

According to him, the system is a “scam hiding in plain sight,” alleging that many drivers are subjected to unfair financial burdens under the model. He argued that drivers often struggle to meet high payment targets while also covering fuel, maintenance, and commission costs.

The remarks have sparked fresh debate about working conditions within Ghana’s ride-hailing industry, with calls growing for reforms to ensure fairer treatment and better protection for drivers.
