Russia Will Not Extradite Its Citizen, Ambassador Clarifies
Ghana’s Minister for Communications, Sam George, has disclosed that the Russian Ambassador has made it clear that Russia will not extradite its citizen, citing constitutional provisions that override any extradition treaty.
According to the Minister, the Ambassador explained that Russia’s constitution supersedes international extradition agreements, making it legally impossible for the country to hand over its nationals to another state for prosecution.
The statement comes amid ongoing discussions between Ghanaian authorities and Russian officials concerning an alleged cybercrime case involving a Russian national. While Ghana continues to seek accountability, the development signals potential legal and diplomatic challenges in pursuing extradition.
Despite this position, diplomatic engagements between the two countries are expected to continue as Ghana explores alternative legal avenues to address the matter.
